Why Pasikudah will steal your heart
Pasikudah is one of the most unusual beaches in Sri Lanka. A reef protects its wide, curving bay, and the water stays shallow for an extraordinary distance. You can wade out for what feels like hundreds of metres, and the warm, clear sea still only reaches your waist.
That makes it wonderful for families with young children, nervous swimmers, and anyone who simply wants to float in calm, turquoise water.

Along the soft, white sand, there are several resorts, yet the beach still feels spacious and relaxed. Next door, Kalkudah Bay is quieter still, with a long, wild beach that's perfect for walking.
Pasikudah is at its best from around May to September, when the east coast is sunny and dry. It's a few hours from the Cultural Triangle, so it's ideal for combining with Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa and Minneriya on a summer holiday.
Spend your days swimming, reading and floating, and your evenings with fresh seafood by the sea. It's simple, and it's bliss.
