Why Hiriketiya Bay will steal your heart
Hiriketiya is a small, perfectly formed bay, shaped like a horseshoe and fringed with tall coconut palms. For a long time, it was a sleepy fishing spot known only to a few surfers. Today, it's one of the most talked-about places on the south coast, but it has kept its relaxed, village feel.
The bay has something for everyone. On one side, gentle, consistent waves roll in, perfect for learning to surf or improving your skills. On the other, calmer water is ideal for swimming, paddleboarding or simply floating in the warm sea.

Around the bay, you'll find stylish cafés serving smoothie bowls, strong coffee and fresh seafood, as well as yoga studios and small boutique stays, all tucked among the palms. The atmosphere is friendly, creative and very easy-going.
Hiriketiya is close to Dickwella and Tangalle, and it's a good base for exploring the quieter south coast, with day trips to Mirissa, the Mulkirigala rock temple or the Hummanaya blowhole.
Come for a morning surf lesson, stay for sunset and a cold coconut, and don't be surprised if your one-night stay turns into three.
